Top 3 tips for a minimal makeup routine

While it would be nice, most of us don’t wake up with flawless skin and perfectly done eyelashes. A put together face requires work. Luckily, it doesn’t have to take forever to look good, and you don’t need to use a million products.

When you celebrate special occasions and want to look more done up, you conceal and cover and paint your face until it looks perfect. You take your time, and pull out all your best products. But when it’s time to relax, you probably don’t feel like putting in the same amount of effort. However, you still want to look good. Sunday brunch, then, is the perfect time to practice your minimal makeup routine. Just a few simple steps, and you’ll be wandering around Toronto, looking radiant and enjoying all the city has to offer.

1. Opt for a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation

Tinted moisturizer will hydrate your skin and even out any imperfections. Because it’s generally a lighter product than foundation, it’ll give you a dewy, radiant look. Apply concealer to places you need a bit more coverage, like under your eyes.

2. Use blush for a radiant look

Swipe it onto the apples of your cheeks and blend well. Don’t be afraid to use a bright colour! When applied correctly, intense pink or red blushes can create the perfect barely-there glow. Getting this glow with strong colours is something that we teach at our makeup school in Toronto.

3. Choose black mascara

Use a lengthening formula on your top lashes only. This will open up your eyes, and make them stand out against your skin without looking or feeling like you’re wearing heavy eye makeup.

Not just for weekends

You can use these tips before work, too. A quick, minimal makeup routine can save you precious time in the morning, allowing you one more hit of the snooze button, or a second cup of coffee.
